Meteorological Data Acquisition Stations for Informatio ...
The MASID - Automated Weather Station (AWS) is a solar-powered device that stores, records and acquires meteorological data through a multi-parameter weather sensor and an adjacent tipping bucket-type rain gauge. Data from this station can be used for weather forecasting and modelling. The system reads the measured weather data from the multi-parameter sensor in a pre-determined interval (programmable) and transmits the readout and other telemetry data to the central server wirelessly through the cellular communication network via SMS (Short-Messaging Service). In case of cellular link failure, the system is also capable of switching to satellite mode as an alternate form of data transmission. A separate external antenna to communicate with Iridium satellites is used. Data collected from the station are processed by the on-board arQ® and are transmitted to a central database server via GSM/GPRS and/or satellite. The data can also be retrieved manually through USB transfer or accessed through the Philsensors website. These operations are managed/controlled autonomously by DOST-ASTI's Advanced Remote Data Acquisition (arQ®) unit or data logger. The data logger is equipped with internal lithium polymer batteries for secondary power storage and an external lead-acid battery as the primary. These batteries are recharged by solar panels that are installed on top of the logger's weather-proof housing. The mechanical structure is designed to be simple, robust and easy to install on any open area using four anchor bolts on a concrete pedestal at the target deployment sites without the need for special tools or heavy equipment. Meteorological Data Acquisition Stations for Informatio ...
The MASID - Flood Early Warning Station (FEWS) is a solar-powered alerting station that signals communities for potential floods. It has three sirens positioned 120 degrees apart to cover the omni-directional direction of the sound. The sirens have different preloaded voice tones for four warning levels – alarm, alert, critical, and recession – that are dependent on the river capacity in the area it is installed. The station’s maximum reach is up to 300 meters. The MASID - FEWS can be triggered manually or via DEWS website. AI4Mapping (by DATOS Project)
AI4Mapping is a system and method that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in generating current situation maps derived from the identified patterns, groupings, and learnings in the detected and captured series and segments of satellite images. Some types of situation maps generated by AI4Mapping includes 1) Land Cover Maps, 2) Land Feature Maps, 3) Flood Situation Maps, and 4) Crop Maps (e.g., rice, sugarcane, and coconut). The derived products from satellite imageries generated by the Remote Sensing and Data Science (DATOS) Help Desk are used for public good purposes (i.e., for applications including, but not limited to, research, academic, development and non-commercial purposes). AI4Mapping is developed under the Remote Sensing and Data Science (DATOS) Help Desk, a R&D project of the Department of Science and Technology - Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) which conducts continuous R&D on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other advanced image processing techniques and methodologies for understanding and executing different applications of earth observation data. The team’s current efforts are in partnership with various government agencies and academe with the same initiatives in the Philippines. To know more about DATOS Project, end users may visit its Project Page or its Facebook Page. Read more

Advanced Remote Data AcQuisition (arQ®) version 1.1
The Advanced Remote Data AcQuisition (arQ®) unit serves as the brain of each monitoring station under the Philsensors network. This data-logging device can acquire and record numerous sensor data such as air pressure, temperature, and humidity, wind speed and direction, rainfall amount, duration, and intensity, soil moisture and temperature, solar radiation, and sunshine duration. Multiple deployed (arQ®) can form large sensor networks that may be used for massive environmental monitoring applications such as weather tracking, disaster response, and agricultural process monitoring. Gul.ai
The Gul.ai Project is an R&D project conceptualized, proposed, and currently implemented by DOST-ASTI’s Computer Software Division. The project aims to promote to the Filipino youth the study and practice of agricultural science and its fusion with Information and Communications Technology (ICT) through the implementation of a small-scale plant-growing system for conducting research studies on small crops. It is designed to showcase the application of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to plant-growing and data gathering through remote and automated operation of the system. It is also designed to demonstrate the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and statistical analytical methods to the analysis of multivariate datasets gathered by the system. The output of such analyses may be used to generate plant-growth models that can be used for predicting yield on a much larger scale of the system. Through experimentation using the system, researchers will be able to identify ideal plant-growing conditions for specific variants of small crops. Read more

Kooha: A Social Sensing Network Application
Kooha is a photo-sharing mobile application which was coined from the Filipino word “kuha” meaning "to take or capture". This application enables real-time participatory photo and sensor data collection using smartphones and mobile devices. These data are then used to draw out insights and generate new knowledge and technologies that can be used across sectors. Some of the data collected from captured images of the users includes location, temperature, sound, network signal, humidity, and luminance. These data can also be seen by other users in the community. These kinds of data are very useful for our data scientists, researchers, and citizen scientists in generating insights and making decisions relevant to the society. The Kooha application is now available for download on the Google Play. To know more about Kooha application features, end users may visit its website and Facebook Page. End users can also view Kooha Web App's live data here. Read more
